Assymetrical Voluminous Ass Fuckers
For the occasion of the exhibition "Een Repliek..." in Galerie Kunstzicht in Ghent, Bram Crevits and Alan Quireyns were invited to organize a project in the actual white cube of the gallery space. The exhibition itself was helt on the second floor of a student restaurant. The pieces of art become so big that the actual exhibition space on the first floor remained empty.
We introduced a screening of the film "Assymetrical Voluminous Ass Fuckers" made by AVAF (Assume Vivid Astro Focus) which is a collective of artist around Eli Sudbrack. AVAF organizes happenings between installation, video, party and performance. They create a whole world, inside the exhibition space, of glamour and queer aesthetics where trance plays an important role. The code of the exhibition space changes in a party, involving everybody. They presented these works in Deitch Projects, New York, Kunsthalle Wien, Whitney Biennial, and now in Ghent.
"Assymetrical Voluminous Ass Fuckers" was originally shown during the PS 1 projects "Concrete Waves" at Art Basel Miami Beach. It is a collection of homemade videos found on Youtube of people dancing. Some dance alone in their rooms, others in competitions or clubs. Four contemporary dancestyles are represented: Vogue, Booty, Jump and Tektonic. The video is mixed with "Quartzo Power", which is a black and white graphic releif beamed over the film.
